The Chairman of the Rastafari Continental Council of Ghana, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey has entreated Government, the Narcotics Control Board and other stakeholders to revise the laws on cannabis to make it a legal plant.
This according to him would pave way for the cultivation and commercialization of industrial hemp and cannabis for economic boost.
He said this on Tuesday during the maiden National Cannabis Conference at the Ghana International Press Centre with the theme “Ghana Beyond Aid: The Cannabis contribution”.
“This conference has an objective to change the mindset of Ghanaians about the misconception of the Cannabis plant, so the most important part of this activism is to help shape public opinion about the plant,”
“Ghanaians should change their minds and accept the new wave of education spreading across Africa here and the world.”
He added that the conference was in line with the Presidents vision of making Ghana a a nation without external aid.
“How do we as citizens think outside the box to help him actualise his dream? How can we use our natural resources to generate enough money to feed the national cofffers? One of the ways which we can look to is the cultivation of industrial hemp and cannabis.”
“Recently a private company in Uganda broke a deal with the German and Canadian governments worth €59m and $100m respectively. South Africa, Lesoth and Zimbabwe has legalized the plant for scientific and medicinal use, aren’t we also Africans? Can’t we contribute to a paradigm shift which would see the coming generation benefit?” He queried.
Daddy Bosco as he is popularly referred to concluded that moving forward the council is working on another petition to present to the parliamentary select committee on interior and defense to review the Narcotics Control Bill.
Present at the occasion was the President of the Council, Ras Khex. He mentioned that we have the best conditions here in Ghana to cultivate the best strains of cannabis for both scientific and medicinal use.
“As it is a general knowledge now, medicinal cannabis eases pain of cancer patients after chemotherapy, helps in the treatment of asthma, insomnia, depression and other medical related issues. So we should push for the NACOB to exclude cannabis from its schedule One drug list to make way for safe cultivation,”
“This we believe would bring us the fortune other natural resources like gold and oil couldn’t bring us
