We are not Treated with Respect -Students of UHAS threaten a demonstration against University policies.

Students of the University of Health and Allied  Sciences (UHAS) are very angry over a new Vocational Training Policy and are willing to add their name to the list of Universities that have embarked on a demonstration.

As accounted by the students, a few days to start their end of semester exams the authorities met with them to adore a total change of arrangements pertaining to their vocational training. Students upon hearing this were very sadden and felt undermined and in response accused the school's authority for being selfish and arbitrary for not taking into consideration the views of their leaders before proposing such an alien policy.

In the new policy it stated that the time frame for the vocational training has been doubled from 4 weeks to 8 weeks which is far outrageous, various conditions such as feeding, accomodation and utility bills are to be footed by students which shouldn't be the case. Students are of the view that the authorities have already charge them as a component of the fees to provide all these services during their vocational training and therefore do not see the need for the new development that the school authorities are trying to impose on them.

For the pass days aggrieved students have tried various ways and means to properly channel their grievances but no change of good or better has been recorded.

The hibernation on the side of authorities pertaining to students complain on the change in new VT policy has gingered the entire student populace with no other option than to embark on a demonstration.

Although authorities have arranged to meet the students to calm them down but the students including their leadership who have already been undermined by the this same management of the institution  are not ready to settle for anything less.

Students of Uhas are ready and determined to embark on a demonstration  but  will only succumb if the following needs are sorted out appropriately
1. Leadership of the Student Representative Council should be involved in reviewing
university policies and programmes.
2. The opinions of students who are the major stakeholders in the Vocational Training
Programme should be sought in ensuring a holistic review of the programme through a
stakeholder meeting between management and the student populace.
3. Fees are already paid, therefore services (transportation, feeding and accommodation etc)
should be rendered as previously done.
4. Extension of VT to eight (8) weeks might not be feasible.
5. New development should take effect from next academic year after students and parents are
made aware of the reviewed Vocational Training Policy

Students are certain that anything contrary to the list above would result in a demonstration.

Meanwhile this coming Friday, the entire students would go red and black to meet the authorities for a dialogue of which if a consensus could not be obtained then students are left when no other options than to go ahead with their plans.

Let's keep fingers crossed and hope for the best, also be certain that any new development would be made known to the general public.
Stay tuned.
